Welcome to Vital Reminder (“the App,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). Vital Reminder is a medication reminder and tracking application for iOS, developed and maintained by an independent developer (“Developer”).
We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is stored, and your rights regarding that information. We have designed Vital Reminder with a privacy-first approach: all your data stays on your device.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By downloading, installing, or using Vital Reminder, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use Vital Reminder, you may enter the following information into the App:
- Medication Data: Medication names, types (e.g., tablet, capsule, liquid), dosage amounts and units, personal notes, and color tags for visual organization.
- Schedule Data: Dose times, frequencies (e.g., daily, specific weekdays, multiple times per day), and weekday selections.
- Dose Logs: Timestamps recording when doses were taken, skipped, missed, or snoozed, along with the source of the action (e.g., notification, manual entry).
- Profile Data (optional): If you choose to create profiles (for yourself or for individuals you care for), you may enter a name, biological sex, weight, date of birth, allergies, and notes. All profile fields are optional.
- App Settings: Your preferences for theme (light/dark/system), notification settings, snooze intervals, and language preference.
1.2 Information We Do NOT Collect
Vital Reminder does not collect, access, or process:
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Camera or photo library content
- Microphone or audio data
- Contacts or address book information
- Apple Health (HealthKit) data
- Browsing history or web activity
- Device identifiers for tracking purposes
- Analytics, usage, or behavioral data
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Any biometric data (Face ID / Touch ID data is managed entirely by iOS and is never accessible to the App)
1.3 Automatically Collected Information
Vital Reminder does not automatically collect any information. We do not use analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or any third-party data collection tools.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
2.1 Local-Only Storage
All data you enter into Vital Reminder is stored exclusively on your device. The App uses Apple's SwiftData framework to maintain a local on-device database. Specifically:
- No data is transmitted to any server, cloud service, or remote database.
- No data is sent to the Developer or any third party.
- No data leaves your device under any circumstances during normal App operation.
2.2 Device Backups
Your Vital Reminder data may be included in standard iOS device backups (iCloud Backup or local backups via Finder/iTunes). These backups are governed by Apple's privacy practices and your own backup settings. We encourage you to review Apple's Privacy Policy for information about how backups are handled.
2.3 CSV Export
The App includes a feature that allows you to export your dose history as a CSV file. When you use this feature, the exported file is generated locally on your device and shared using iOS's standard share sheet. You control where the exported file is saved or sent. The Developer does not receive a copy of any exported data.
3. How Your Data Is Used
Your data is used solely for the following purposes within the App:
- Medication Management: Displaying your medications, schedules, and dose history.
- Notifications: Sending local (on-device) reminders at your scheduled dose times. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely by iOS on your device — they are not pushed from any server.
- Dose Tracking: Recording and displaying your dose adherence history.
- Profile Management: Allowing you to manage medication information for yourself and individuals you care for (e.g., children or elderly family members).
- Data Export: Generating CSV files of your dose history when you request it.
Your data is never used for:
- Advertising or marketing
- Profiling or behavioral analysis
- Sale to or sharing with third parties
- Training machine learning models
- Any purpose other than the core functionality described above
4. Third-Party Services and Sharing
4.1 No Third-Party Data Sharing
Vital Reminder does not share, sell, rent, or disclose your personal data to any third party. There are no third-party SDKs, analytics services, advertising networks, or data brokers integrated into the App.
4.2 Apple Services
The App relies on the following Apple-provided services, which are governed by Apple's own privacy policies:
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): Used only for local notification scheduling. No notification content is transmitted to Apple's servers for local notifications.
- App Store / TestFlight: Distribution platforms governed by Apple's terms and privacy practices.
- Background App Refresh: Used to keep notification schedules up to date. No data is transmitted during background refresh operations.
4.3 No Tracking
Vital Reminder does not track you across other apps or websites. The App does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because there is no tracking to authorize. This is consistent with our App Store privacy nutrition labels.
5. Health Data Sensitivity
5.1 Nature of Data
We recognize that medication names, dosages, schedules, and adherence records constitute sensitive health-related information, even though this data is stored solely on your device.
5.2 Not a Medical Device
Vital Reminder is not a medical device, is not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any equivalent regulatory body, and is not subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The App does not interface with healthcare providers, insurance companies, pharmacies, or electronic health record systems.
5.3 Our Commitment
Despite the local-only nature of data storage, we design the App with the sensitivity of health data in mind:
- No data transmission means your health information cannot be intercepted in transit.
- Your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, encryption) protect all App data at rest.
- The App does not display sensitive information in notification content beyond what is necessary for medication reminders.
6. Children's Privacy
6.1 Age Requirements
Vital Reminder is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13.
6.2 Sub-Profiles for Dependents
The App allows adult users (parents, guardians, or caregivers) to create sub-profiles to manage medication schedules for dependents, which may include children. In this context:
- The adult user enters and manages all data on behalf of the child.
- No data is collected directly from the child.
- All data remains stored locally on the adult user's device.
- The adult user is solely responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of the data entered.
6.3 COPPA Compliance
Because the App does not collect information from children directly, does not transmit any data off the device, and sub-profile data is entered and controlled entirely by an adult user, the App's practices are consistent with the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you believe a child under 13 has independently used the App and entered personal information, please contact us at the email address below. Since all data is stored locally and we have no access to it, the appropriate action would be to delete the App or use the in-app “Clear All Data” feature.
7. Your Rights
7.1 General Rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device and the Developer has no access to it, you have complete and immediate control over your data at all times. You can:
- Access all your data directly within the App.
- Export your dose history via the CSV export feature.
- Modify any medication, schedule, profile, or setting at any time.
- Delete specific records within the App (individual medications, profiles, or dose logs where supported).
- Delete all data using the “Clear All Data” feature in Settings.
- Delete the App, which removes all App data from your device.
7.2 Rights Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR:
- Right of Access: You can view all your data within the App at any time.
- Right to Rectification: You can edit any information in the App.
- Right to Erasure (“Right to Be Forgotten”): You can delete your data using the “Clear All Data” feature or by uninstalling the App.
- Right to Data Portability: You can export your dose history as a CSV file.
- Right to Restriction of Processing: You can pause or archive medications, or stop using the App entirely.
- Right to Object: Since data is stored locally and not processed by any remote service, this right is inherently satisfied.
Legal Basis for Processing: Under the GDPR, the legal basis for any data processing within the App is your consent, provided by your voluntary use of the App and your voluntary entry of data. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your data or uninstalling the App.
Data Controller: Because all data resides on your device and the Developer cannot access it, there is no traditional “data controller” relationship. You are effectively both the data subject and the data controller for information stored within the App.
7.3 Rights Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA:
- Right to Know: This Privacy Policy discloses all categories of personal information the App may store. No personal information is collected by the Developer.
- Right to Delete: You can delete your data using the “Clear All Data” feature or by uninstalling the App.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: The Developer does not sell your personal information. There is no personal information to sell, as no data is transmitted off your device.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: The Developer will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
7.4 Do Not Track
The App does not track users in any way. There are no tracking mechanisms to disable.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
8.1 Retention
Your data is retained on your device for as long as you keep the App installed and choose to retain it. The Developer does not control or have access to your data retention.
8.2 Deletion
You may delete your data at any time by:
- Using “Clear All Data” in the App's Settings screen, which permanently deletes all medications, schedules, dose logs, profiles, and resets all settings to defaults.
- Deleting individual records through the App's interface (e.g., deleting a specific medication or profile).
- Uninstalling the App from your device, which removes all locally stored App data.
Once deleted, data cannot be recovered by the Developer or by the App, as there are no backups maintained on any server. Data may persist in iOS device backups you have previously created, subject to your backup management practices.
9. Data Security
9.1 On-Device Security
The security of your data benefits from the security features of your iOS device, including:
- Device Encryption: iOS encrypts all data on the device when a passcode is set.
- App Sandboxing: iOS isolates App data so that other apps cannot access Vital Reminder's data.
- Biometric Protection: If enabled, Face ID or Touch ID protects access to your device.
9.2 Our Practices
- The App does not implement its own encryption layer because iOS device-level encryption provides robust protection for locally stored data.
- The App does not transmit data over any network, eliminating the risk of data interception during transit.
- The App does not store data in shared or publicly accessible locations on the device.
9.3 Your Responsibility
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, including setting a strong passcode, keeping iOS up to date, and managing physical access to your device.
10. Future Features — Optional Cloud Sync
10.1 Planned Feature
We may introduce an optional cloud synchronization feature in a future update, which would allow you to back up your data and sync it across multiple devices. This feature, if implemented, would likely use a third-party cloud service (such as Firebase or iCloud).
10.2 Opt-In Only
Any cloud sync feature will be:
- Strictly opt-in: You will need to explicitly enable it. The App will continue to function fully in local-only mode.
- Transparent: We will update this Privacy Policy before launching any cloud feature, clearly explaining what data is synced, where it is stored, and how it is protected.
- Account-based: Cloud sync would require you to create an account or sign in, giving you clear control over the feature.
10.3 Commitment
Until such a feature is implemented and you choose to enable it, no data will leave your device. We will provide clear notice and obtain your consent before any change to our data handling practices.
11. International Users
Vital Reminder is available on the App Store in multiple regions. Regardless of your location:
- All data is stored locally on your device.
- No data is transferred across borders, as no data leaves your device.
- This Privacy Policy applies equally to all users worldwide.
If future features involve data transfer (see Section 10), we will comply with applicable international data transfer regulations, including GDPR requirements for transfers outside the EEA.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or our practices. When we make changes:
- The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy will be revised.
- For material changes (e.g., introduction of cloud features or new data collection), we will provide notice through the App (such as an in-app notification or a prompt upon first launch after the update).
- Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us at:
Email: support@vitalreminder.com
We will make every effort to respond to your inquiry within 30 days.
14. App Store Privacy Labels
In accordance with Apple's App Store requirements, Vital Reminder's privacy nutrition labels reflect the following:
- Data Not Collected: The Developer does not collect any data from this App.
- Data Not Linked to You: No data is linked to your identity.
- Data Not Used to Track You: The App does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
This Privacy Policy is effective as of the date listed above and applies to version 1.0 and subsequent versions of the Vital Reminder App unless superseded by an updated policy.
